Worldwide support for Mintchip
Looking through the applications it seems to me that many of these applications (especially web based ones) can only really work if more then just Canada gets the mintchip. While I hope the whole world does get the mintchip, I think the online market isn't going to be revolutionized until more countries/bigger countries get into it (if China, India or the US supported the mintchip then online stuff would work, as for now it doesn't really).

Which applications are you referring to and how so? Most would only be used in Canada, anyways.

There is quite a large number of goods and services that can't be purchased through online merchants. These generally require that you physically go to the merchant to make the purchase. That is a prime area for mint chip.

The online ones, online merchants probably won't bother with accepting a system that only is used by one country. Also the MMORPG one is another, as moat players wouldn't have mintchip and therefore another system would be needed. Offline this works amazingly I agree, just not always online.

I would agree that in the short term, worldwide vendors would not necessarily adopt MintChip quickly without sufficient motivation. But if MintChip gained enough traction then it could be worthwhile, especially if they have Merchants that only do business in Canada that they're competing with.
As for MMORPG, depending on the demographic this may be another area that would still see benefit. A lot of the online gaming services still need to sell cards in stores so Minor's can buy additional months of services.

Yeah, I see these coming out in 5 years or so, slowly being rolled out, with some of these applications showing off how awesome it can be, then slowly Canada will adopt it as the main form of money, and after that other (probably european) countries will look into doing the same, and only then will some of these online vendors start offering it. Before that it's not really worth it to most of them.
