Account required to vote?

Hi,

With voting set to start tomorrow, I was reading through the rules to figure out how it's going to work. It seems that everyone that wants to vote has to have a ChallengePost account?

Can this be changed to allow votes via twitter or Facebook? And I don't mean allowing the ChallengePost app to access your Facebook details.

Requiring a ChallengePost account is a barrier to voting, and will mean that I'll have to perform tech support for a number of my friends and family to get them setup. Nevermind the people that they'll end up sharing it with.

Please advise.

    Hi Xitij,

Thanks for writing. You are correct, all users need a ChallengePost account in order to vote. Requiring users to have accounts is one of the methods we utilize in order to prevent fraudulent voting practices.

Users can also sign in to ChallengePost using Facebook. Please note that Facebooks likes and tweets do not count as votes.

Feel free to email me directly at support@challengepost.com with any additional questions you may have. Thank you.

    Best,
    Marny

If I'm reading the voting rules right, you can vote for your own submission once per day. Doesn't this seem a little counterintuitive? A team of 5 could rack up 140 votes in the 28 days without even relying on their network.

    Hi Dickson,

Thanks for your question. You are correct, each submitter can vote for his/her own submission once per day. We encourage you to reach out to your friends, family and network to ask them to vote for your submission daily.

Also, do keep in mind that there are eight awards and the Popular Choice Award is the only one determined by public voting. The rest of the awards will be determined by a panel of judges. Thank you.

This daily voting doesn't make sense. Now I have to annoy my network on a daily base :).

In the future I would love to see ChallengePost update these voting rules so that each person gets one and only one vote. I'm sure that this issue has come up before in other ChallengePost contests. :)

I've actually been warned by previous ChallengePost participants to not worry about the public voting portion. Apparently, people pay for votes using things like Mechanical Turk, etc. and essentially game the system. The previous participants felt cheated, and that it was a waste of their time to worry about the public voting.

I'm employing various strategies, but I am definitely NOT giving incentives for people to vote for taab. I'm merely doing as much promotion as I can, asking for a vote, and letting the person decide based on what I've posted.

It would be really unfortunate if people garnered votes unfairly. I'm hoping that doesn't happen here.

I've been paying people via MintChip for their votes. I hope this isn't considered gaming the system. ;)

    Hah! That made me chuckle.

@Christine good idea. A dollar per vote. It's just beta testing our apps. It can't be cheating.

    Hi Xitij,

We welcome feedback and concerns and appreciate your participation. We take great pride in running this and our other competitions very fairly.

Popular votes displayed on the site are real-time and do not necessarily reflect the number of verified, eligible votes that determine the Popular Choice Award. We use a number of manual and automated processes to verify that votes comply with the limitation of one vote per day per submission for each user.

Compensating individuals monetarily or otherwise for votes is not permitted. If you come across any suspicious activity please email me directly at support@challengepost.com. Thank you.

    Best,
    Marny

As per the official rules, people who try to game the system will be disqualified. We're super serious about this!
