Bitcoin, a digital currency, has already done what "MintChip" is trying to do.

Seriously, look at Bitcoins. They've been around for years now, and they have a lot more advantages. It does more than MintChip, and MintChip seems like a mix between PayPal and Bitcoins. Drop it. It's useless trying to make a new standard.

    Mintchip isn't a currency. It's a wallet.

    Seriously, read the docs.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with this, and bitcoin spam should not be part of the comments here.

BitCoin has all sorts of problems that are now emerging. New currency is given to those who own the biggest bot nets- and the anonymous nature of transactions makes virus based theft rampant. I really do support BitCoin but it is not a silver bullet solution.

I guess the greatest advantage over other systems like BitCoin or Oyster card is that Ewallets like MintChip or e.g. the german Geldkarte are anonymous and that they do not need network transactions to / with issuing authorities.

Of course you may charge them or pay on the net. However this always goes between two MintChip Endpoints. No control outside the involved endpoints is needed. Therefore these systems must work without any network interaction. e.g. by usage of pocket terminals to transfer cash between two MintChips.
